Prayer Request

This past Wednesday early morning, Marci’s uncle Randy Korb called his daughter because he was not feeling well. She called 911 and Randy went to the E.R. It was discovered that he had a tear in his aorta and they were ready to do surgery, but he passed away before they could repair it. He was 60 years old, in good health as far as anyone knew, and very active. Please pray for Marci and their family as they grieve this loss.

I met Randy for the first time over this past summer when we went up to Wisconsin for Marci’s brother’s wedding. I noticed that he was the closest of Kevin’s (Marci’s dad) brothers, of which there are many. I also noticed how similar he was to Kevin, both in age and personality. He was playful, fun, and a bit mischievous. In particular, my favorite memory is of him throwing one of his frogs at Karissa’s (Marci’s sister) new boyfriend, and it landing directly on his nose (picture below). Randy was known as “the frog guy”, and had studied frogs, even publishing a book called “Frogs of Wisconsin”, complete with a cd of frog calls, as well as a children’s book based on a frog he and his grandson found with one eye – more details on his website.

He definitely had an interesting life, and shared it with many people. He spent a lot of time sharing his knowledge with kids. I only spent a few hours around him, but Marci has told me many stories about him.

His unexpected death reminds me that we’re not promised another tomorrow. Let’s make the most of the time we do have, cherish the people we know and love, and remember that these earthly bodies are just shells that will turn to dust.

2 Corinthians 5:1-2

For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven.
